School Procedures

Hello Heights Families and Community Members!

Here are a few new announcements regarding Heights school procedures and current news. This information is also sent out to families through School Messenger and posted on Facebook.

Title 1 and Title 3 Parents Right to Know Document

All students will continue to learn online until further notice

Virtual and remote students will remain in online classes this semester. Middle and High School return dates have not yet been set, but will be announced when they are set. Information will be sent out to Heights families when this happens.

Heights MS Parent Zoom Meeting Expectations

Parents are welcome to monitor their students’ instructional Zoom meetings with their classes and teachers.  For the safety and learning of our students, we ask parents to please abide by the following expectations:

- Do not ask questions, comment on the teachers’ lessons or teaching ability, or otherwise interrupt the lesson.  To communicate with teachers please use Schoology Messenger or Gmail, or contact the teacher during their Office Hours.

- Remember that if you are in the same room as the student that the teacher and other students can see you and hear what you say. Please do not use vulgar or profane language, or say or do anything that would not be school-appropriate, even if it is in the background.

- If any of these expectations are violated, the teacher will remind the student and parent of the problem the first time.  If it occurs again, the teacher may exit the student from the meeting and may mark the student absent for that class.

Heights Middle School Virtual Learning Reminders

- Students will have learning opportunities five days a week, Monday-Friday.
- Attendance will be taken daily in all classes and student work will be graded.
- Students are encouraged to contact their teachers for support during their office hours.
- Students should only join the Zoom meetings for the classes they are enrolled in, and should not give the link or the passcode to anyone.
- You must use your school laptop whenever possible so your ID information is available to the teacher, otherwise you will most likely be marked absent.

Live Instruction Classroom Rules - Student Expectations

 - Be Prepared: Make sure your laptop is charged enough to last through you meeting. Set up your work station in a well-lit, quiet location with a sturdy underground (table/desk). Put away all distractions. Eat and/or drink before or after the meeting.

- Be on Time:  Follow the bell schedule.  Being late is disruptive to the class. If you are more than 5 minutes late the teacher may not admit you and you may be marked absent.
- Participate: Participate regularly and pay attention, rename yourself using your full first and last name, turn on your camera, answer questions when asked, discuss in small groups when this is requested.
- Mute yourself: Do not unmute yourself during class. If you have a question, then you can raise your hand and your teacher will ask you to unmute
- Be responsible: If your teacher enables the Chat, remember that the Chat is for educational purposes ONLY. Inappropriate actions or language could result in being exited from the class, being marked absent, notification of your parents, and disciplinary action taken.
- Be presentable: Dress for class appropriately following our school dress code policy.

If a student does not adhere to the above expectations, they will be given a verbal warning. If the behavior persists, the teacher will remove the student from the meeting and notify the parents/guardians. The student may be marked absent from that class period in PowerSchool.
